Not many 'Western' Class diesels have worked on Bethnal Green Bank! On 20 December 2008 No.D1015 made a fine sight at the helm of a 'Pathfinder' special from Swindon to Great Yarmouth via Liverpool Street. The sound of the twin Maybach engines working hard was a pleasure to hear. Memories!

A cliche location, indeed, millions of train pictures must have been taken here. It's still an attractive spot, though, and at least you can watch the parade of birds between the trains. Class 90 No. 90011 crosses the Suffolk Stour estuary at Manningtree with the 10.30 Norwich-Liverpool Street on 4 February 2008.

This Leyland railbus, a precursor of the present day Class 142s, had been on a sales tour of various Scandinavian countries. It was repatriated at Harwich and promptly developed a wheel fault. It was put on a 'skate' and towed to Colchester Depot for attention where I photographed it on 29 June 1985.

SNCF tends to avoid using diesel traction for long hauls under the wires so I was very surprised when Class 67 diesel No.67467 turned up at L'Ardoise with this Berre-Marseille haul of oil tanks. The port of Marseille was suffering from industrial unrest at the time and road exits from the port were being blockaded by militants protesting at the surging price of oil. 'The Empire Builder', Seattle-Chicago, passes near to the Hood River Bridge in the Columbia River Gorge during an August evening in 2000. I had waited for over an hour for this train. What a pity I didn't bother to wait for a couple more minutes after it passed - a freight was right on its tail! Such are the tribulations of railroad photography in the USA.
